Progress:  ACTION UNDERWAY. A selection of public forms in DLRCC have been plain English proofed and are now in use by the local authority. Several other local organisations have nominated forms they would like to 'proof' for Plain English, and it is hoped to undertake this exercise over the summer months.

Progress:  ACTION COMPLETE. This website has been developed and on-line since August 2007, and is updated on a regular basis with information both for members of new communities in the County, as well as resources for service providers working with these groups.

Develop links with primary and secondary school resource teachers and collaborate with them to disseminate key information on service provision/learning opportunities/etc. for parents of ethnic minority children.

Establish a dedicated information and advocacy service to ethnic minorities in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown. This action will build on the experience and learning gained from the Advocacy Worker for Travellers as part of the Interagency Plan to Support the Travelling Community.

Organisations involved in carrying out the ARD actions to use the Unite Network of Service Providers as a mechanism for networking, sharing information, co-ordinating responses for the needs of ethnic minority persons, and serve as a referral network for members of new communities to existing services.

Progress: Southside Community Training Network provided a course in February 2008 focused on 'Working Within and Across Cultures'. Targeted primarily at communities, the courses aimed to help and support people to build intercultural relationships. A second course focused on 'Diversity in the Workplace' is taking place April 17th.

Finalise "Get Wise" Training Manual and deliver the programme to relevant groups in the County with the goal of exporting the learning to other An Garda Siochana jurisdictions.

Develop a training module within an existing Estate Management Fora around encouraging anti-racist and inclusive pratices. A pilot will be undertaken in an area in which there are ongoing and / or increasing numbers of complaints of racism, as recorded in the Anti-Social Unit's database.

Progress:  ACTION UNDERWAY. The Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Volunteer Centre has recently launched its website (www.volunteerdlr.ie) in an effort to encourage local residents to register their details with the Centre, and to facilitate businesses or organisations who require volunteers to advertise volunteer opportunities. Pilot drop-in programmes in local resource centres and other community facilities for new communities that will include information and advice on relevant issues, cultural education on Ireland, interpreters, language exchanges, English classes, and somewhere to socialise.

Progress:  ACTION UNDERWAY. A pilot drop-in programme has been initiated by the Dundrum Citizens Information Centre (CIC) in the Rosemount Resource Centre. The first session was held in May, and will continue on every second Tuesday of the month in the Resource Centre, between 10am - 12 noon.
